In this series, we will introduce you to resident experts at Quantix who are contributing daily to our vision as the leading supply chain services company to the chemical industry. These team members provide insights into their professional journey and share the rewarding aspects of working in the chemical industry.
Meet Debbie Diaz.
Debbie Diaz is an Inbound Packaging Manager at Quantix who has more than 26 years of experience in the chemical industry. Her dedication to finding solutions and building relationships has been the driving force in her career. Throughout the years, Debbie has embraced opportunities within the company that have shaped her current role overseeing packaging, managing rail car logistics for the Gulf Coast, and collaborating closely with the operational team for efficient scheduling.
What motivated you to enter this industry?
I started about 26 and a half years ago as a Purchasing Assistant for Plantgistix (one of Quantix’s acquired companies), and it’s grown from there from Purchasing Manager to the Inbound Packaging Manager. I was originally intrigued by the opportunity when I spotted an ad in the newspaper to buy and interact with people.
What do you find most rewarding about working in this industry?
The gratitude I receive from the customers for things we’ve done successfully for them and working with our internal teams to find solutions. I genuinely enjoy my job and work hard to build and nurture strong relationships that contribute to overall operational success.
What do you consider your area of expertise?
Between my years of industry experience and the strong relationships I have made with many of our major customers, I understand their expectations and how to surpass them. I can anticipate challenges and work with our customers and operations teams to navigate around potential obstacles, ensuring a smooth process.
Can you share a notable success story or project that has been particularly impactful in your career?
About 20 years ago, right after Thanksgiving, we were embargoed by one of the railroad companies and quickly had to come up with a solution. So, our team got together and developed a permitting system idea that we took straight to the central office of the railroad. Although there were many challenges with the proposal because we had to be willing to reject rail cars without a permit, they gave us three months to see if we could control it – and we did. The permitting system was then spread to everyone else in the industry. It was such an exciting point in my career to have such a large part in a critical component of safe and efficient operations for the railways and the overall logistics industry.
Debbie’s passion for the industry, dedication to exceptional customer service, and strategic problem-solving skills have been instrumental in shaping her successful career in chemical logistics. Her collaborative spirit and depth of experience continue to set her apart as a valuable asset to Quantix and the industry.
