Meet Amy Armstrong.

Amy is a VP of 3PL Liquid at Quantix with more than 23 years of experience in the chemical industry. Amy’s career trajectory has been marked by passion, dedication, and a deep commitment to excellence. Her expertise in the chemical sector, particularly in the liquid space, has set her apart as a valuable asset in delivering tailored solutions to clients. Amy shares insights into her career evolution, notable successes, and the rewarding relationships she has fostered with both customers and drivers.

What motivated you to enter the industry?

My journey into the transportation logistics industry began during my time at Chevron Phillips and Total Petrochemicals (now TotalEnergies). A pivotal project involving bulk truck transportation, contract management, and carrier negotiations solidified my passion for this field. Working alongside a supportive and empowering team of women further fueled my growth and collaborative spirit.

This experience led me to Trimac, where I managed the North American sales operations for various product lines, including bulk liquids, industrial gases, and oilfield services. This broader exposure bolstered my enthusiasm for the entire transportation logistics industry.

What do you find most rewarding about working in this industry?

The most rewarding aspect of this industry is the two-fold satisfaction of serving both our customers and the professional drivers who make it all happen. The opportunity to provide solutions to our customers, build trust, and understand their business needs is incredibly fulfilling.

My profound respect for drivers and their demanding roles motivates me to be their champion. During my time at Trimac, I spent significant time in the field, participating in numerous ride-alongs, completing pre-trip inspections and even cleaning liquid chemical tankers. These experiences not only exposed me to the challenges drivers face but also deepened my understanding of our customer’s needs, allowing me to connect the dots across the entire transportation process.

What do you consider your area of expertise?

My focus and specialization lie within the liquid chemical space, a domain in which my roles at Trimac and other organizations have provided me with in-depth knowledge and skills. Working closely with major chemical producers has honed my ability to deliver tailored solutions and establish enduring relationships with clients, further solidifying my expertise in this niche area.

Can you share a notable success story or project that has been particularly impactful in your career?

In a particularly rewarding project, we built a strong relationship with a leading manufacturer of specialty polyethylene waxes. Initially resistant to change, the client exhibited signs of hesitation, likely due to past negative experiences with their previous provider. Through a combination of patience, collaboration, and a deep understanding of their specific needs, we were able to develop bespoke solutions that effectively addressed their challenges. To achieve this, I directly engaged with their team members at all levels, from CSRs and dispatch to operators and leadership, to gather feedback and tailor a custom solution. This successful project highlighted the importance of fostering strong client partnerships and empowering internal teams, showcasing the value of teamwork and collaboration in delivering tangible results.

Amy’s journey in the chemical industry is a testament to her unwavering passion, dedication, and expertise. Her insights into building successful relationships, collaborating for tailored solutions, and empowering professionals reflect a career driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence.  Amy’s dedication to helping others makes her a leader and a valuable asset to Quantix and the industry.
